Born to two oh-so-lovely parents in the wilds of Alameda, CA, Courtney has been interested in cooking since his first day of preschool. On that day, as his mother, Anne, likes to tell, he ran to the Fisher Price cooktop playset and made pretend snacks for all his playmates, they each gave him a five-star Yelp review. Courtney carried that interest into his adolescence, earning Cooking merit badge as a Boy Scout and subjecting his family to many iterations of dishes “alla Courtney.” After graduating with a degree in Literature from the University of California, Santa Cruz, Courtney naturally sought his first restaurant job. He found work at mid-mountain restaurant on the slopes of a ski hill in Lake Tahoe. That season he cooked pizza for the first time and skied over 100 days.
Courtney has been working in the kitchen at Pizzaiolo for the past four years. During that time he has moved twice, married his beautiful wife, fathered his first child, and become sous chef. He and his wife eagerly await the arrival of their second child in the spring of 2018. When not cooking, Courtney can usually be found frolicking with his daughter in the Oakland hills, hugging redwood trees, and drinking from his “World’s Greatest Dad” mug.
